CNC Honors Board Member's Oustanding Volunteer Achievement
Volunteering in the early education classroom takes time, dedication and compassion. But even with the pressures of daily life, a CNC board member is working hard as a classroom volunteer to make a difference in the lives of children.
Cris Schoon was honored with an ‘Above and Beyond’ award by kindergarten teacher Ms. Linda Sivley on June 25, 2007 at the Historic Day Nursery for demonstrating exceptional service beyond what is normally required.
Cris has volunteered at least once a week for the last two years in the Day Nursery’s kindergarten classroom and has shown great enthusiasm and devotion in helping children learn to read and write. He has been a remarkable addition to CNC’s family of supporters. Thank you, Mr. Cris!
New Volunteer Services Initiative on the Drawing Board!
We are delighted to announce that Karen Wiedemann, CVA, has officially joined CNC’s Corporate Team as the Volunteer Services Director. Karen comes to us following eight years as coordinator of the GrandFriends program in School District 11. She will be spending the next several months developing the structure for our new volunteer services initiative, creating volunteer policies and procedures, and making certain that volunteers and other community resources support and advance the mission of Child Nursery Centers. Although we won’t be rolling out the volunteer program until later this year, Karen welcomes hearing from all prospective volunteers. Her email address is kwiedemann@cscnc.org, and her telephone number is 632-1754, ext. 40.

This award recognizes CNC for providing outstanding services to the community. President and CEO, Diane Price and Board of Director's Chair, Shirley Ricketts accepted the award on behalf of CNC during a reception given at the City Administration Building on April 18, 2006.
"We are proud of our long-standing relationship with the City and are honored to be part of an organization that contributes to the quality of life for many people living in Colorado Springs - making this such a great place to live," Diane said as she accepted the award, "we believe strongly that quality early care and education should be available to all families, not just those who can afford it."
In recent years, CNC has been recognized not only by the City of Colorado Springs, but by the El Pomar Foundation, Goodwill Industries and the Junior League of Colorado Springs for its outstanding work in the early education arena.

CNC President and CEO "Woman of Influence"
Diane Price was chosen for the Colorado Springs Business Journal's "Women
of Influence" feature.
"Price was a classroom teacher for 10 years....grateful to be working with people
who were committed to the success of public education. Although her love for
children has taken her ... into nonprofit organizations, nurseries and the legislative
arena, she learned invaluable lessons from her time as a schoolteacher. 'I learned
some leadership skills and learned to compromise. But most importantly, I worked
with parents,' Price said. 'Parents are critical. This is about building relationships
with families and having them understand what's happening at school and having
schools understand what's happening at home.'" — from Colorado Springs
Business Journal.
